Grain-free
A grain-free label describes what is absent, not whether the entire diet is appropriate for a specific animal. Do not use grain-free food as an automatic response to itching or digestive symptoms without veterinary guidance.
Novel proteins and limited ingredients
These can be relevant in professionally managed diet trials, but casual switching can make a future diagnostic elimination trial harder to interpret. If food allergy is genuinely suspected, a veterinarian can recommend an appropriate strategy.
Fresh and subscription foods
Freshness, delivery convenience and portion packaging may be useful household features. They do not remove the need to check nutritional adequacy, storage instructions and cost.
